Who this policy covers
This website, colleenmoyne.com.au, is run by Colleen Moyne, an Australian writer and poet. In this policy “we”, “us” and “our” mean Colleen Moyne. It applies to any personal information you share with us through this website.
The information we collect
We only collect personal information that you choose to give us. In practice this is the information you type into the contact form on the Contact page:
- your name;
- your email address;
- a subject line and, if relevant, the book your message is about; and
- the message you write.
This website does not require you to create an account, and it does not sell products or take payments. If you buy one of Colleen’s books, that purchase is handled by the bookshop or publisher you buy from, under their own privacy policy — not here.
Cookies and website analytics
This website uses Google Analytics to understand, in aggregate, how visitors use the site: which pages are viewed, how people arrive (for example from a search engine), the type of device and browser used, and an approximate location worked out from your IP address. Google Analytics sets its own cookies to do this. We use these reports only to improve the website. We do not use them for advertising, and we do not use them to identify you personally.
You can block or delete these cookies in your browser settings, or opt out of Google Analytics on every website by installing Google’s opt-out browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. This website does not use advertising cookies. The contact form may set a small cookie that limits repeat submissions, to stop spam.
The home page offers Colleen's Facebook feed. It only loads if you click to show it; Facebook then serves the content and may set its own cookies under Facebook's privacy policy.
Our hosting provider also keeps standard server logs (such as IP address and browser type) to keep the site secure and running reliably, and we use Google Search Console to see, in aggregate, which pages people find through search.
How we use your information
We use the details you send through the contact form for one purpose: to read and reply to your message. We do not add you to a mailing list, and we do not use your information for marketing unless you specifically ask us to. We never sell, rent or trade your personal information.
Who your information is shared with
We share personal information only with the service providers that help us run this website, and only so they can provide that service:
- Netlify hosts the website and runs the contact form;
- Resend delivers contact-form messages to us by email (if a message can’t be delivered, it is stored securely in JB Digital Barossa’s client portal for follow-up);
- JB Digital Barossa, who built and look after this website, receives a copy of each contact-form enquiry, and its client portal logs your name, email address and message, so they can check the form is working and delivering your message;
- Google provides Google Analytics and Search Console, which report how the website is used and how it performs in search.
These providers are required to protect your information. Otherwise we do not disclose your personal information to anyone, unless we are required to do so by law.
Storage outside Australia
Some of the providers above store data on servers located outside Australia, including in the United States. By sending us a message you consent to your information being stored and handled in this way. We take reasonable steps to use providers that protect personal information to a standard consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles.
Enquiry forms and follow-up
When you type your email address or phone number into an enquiry or quote form on this website, we save what you have entered so far (your name, contact details and the details of your enquiry), even if you do not press send. We do this only so that Colleen Moyne can get in touch once to help if your enquiry was interrupted. We never save passwords or payment details. If you clear the form, or tap “Clear” under it, what you typed is deleted. If you do send the form, the unsent copy is deleted straight away. Otherwise, saved details are deleted automatically after 90 days. They are stored securely in Australia by our website provider, JB Digital Barossa, and are not sold, shared or used for marketing lists. To see or delete anything we hold about you, or to ask us not to contact you, email colmoyne@gmail.com and we will action it promptly.
How we protect your information
This website is served over a secure (HTTPS) connection, and we take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect personal information from misuse, loss, and unauthorised access. No method of transmitting information over the internet is completely secure, but we work to keep your information safe.
How long we keep your information
We keep the information from your enquiry only for as long as we need it to respond to you and to deal with any reasonable follow-up. After that it is deleted.
Accessing or correcting your information
You can ask us to give you a copy of the personal information we hold about you, to correct it if it is wrong, or to delete it. Email us at colmoyne@gmail.com and we will respond within a reasonable time.
Making a complaint
If you are concerned about how we have handled your personal information, please contact us first at colmoyne@gmail.com so we can try to put it right. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
Children’s privacy
This website is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always the one published on this page, and the date it was last updated is shown near the top.
